The LXE1722 6-CH Evaluation Board is a fullyfunctional 5.1 channel class-D amplifier designedto support surround sound (five channels plussubwoofer) applications. Connection to a singlepower supply, 6 speakers, and an audio source(such as a DVD player) is all that is required tobegin evaluating the amplifier.
Board Setting
1. Power and Ground connections: The terminalVIN is for the power supply connection, “+” isconnected to the positive polarity of powersupply or battery (+7V ~ +25V); “-“ isconnected to the negative polarity of thepower supply or battery. Please make sureyour power supply polarity connection andsupply voltage is correct before you start toevaluate the board.2. Speakers’ connections:LS – Left Surround Channel speaker output, with +/- polarity;L – Left Channel speaker output, with +/-polarity;S – Subwoofer speaker output, with +/-polarity;C – Center channel speaker output, with+/- polarity;R – Right Channel speaker output, with +/-polarity;RS – Right Surround speaker output, with+/- polarity; This evaluation board is designed forstandard 4
Ω
speaker loads. If differentimpedance speakers are chosen, the outputfrequency response will not be optimized butcan be easily modified to provide a flatfrequency response. Please see applicationnote AN16.3. Audio input connections:RCA2 – Left Surround channel audio sourceinput, single-ended;RCA1 – Left channel audio source input,single-ended;RCA3 – Subwoofer channel audio source input,single-ended;RCA4 – Center channel audio source input,single-ended;RCA5 – Right channel audio source input,single-ended;RCA6 – Right surround channel audio sourceinput, single-ended;4. SLEEP/MUTE connections:The SLEEP/MUTE circuit (Figure 1) of theamplifier has been designed to provide twomethods of control, a “manual” control usingthe jumpers and an “automatic” means using aMicrocontroller.a. Jumper Method: Control SLEEP/MUTEthrough the SLEEP and MUTE header. This is achieved by setting the jumpers tothe “OFF” position. Closing header pin 1to pin 2 for SLEEP pulls the SLEEP/ control pin to VCC, thereby enabling theamplifier. Closing header pin 2 to pin 3 forMUTE pulls the MUTE control to ground, enabling the inputs. Reverse the jumperpositions to “ON” to shut down or turn offthe amp. The MUTE pin can be left open.b. CPU Method: Close SLEEP jumper to“OFF” position (pin1,2) and MUTE jumperto “ON” position. This ties the controls tothe external SLEEP/MUTE circuit whichcan utilize a CPU for active powerup/power down control. Connect pin 1and pin 2 of jumper J1 to the GPIO(General Purpose Input/Output) pin of theMicrocontroller. For the SLEEP control,Logic “High” will SLEEP the system, Logic“Low” to release; for MUTE control, Logic“LOW” will MUTE the system, and Logic“High” to release. A delay time should befollowed to minimize pop noise, duringturn on. After SLEEP is set HIGH(controller enabled), wait ~150msecbefore controlling MUTE to LOW (enableinputs). To turn off the system, MUTEshould be pulled HIGH (disable inputs)and then control SLEEP to LOW.
