Catherine Smith sued Narconon for wrongful death of her son Justin Michael Smith who died as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident while supposedly under the supervision of the Narconon Northern California residential program. He died July 13, 2000. Cathie Smith is Founder and President of The Justin Foundation. Formed as a non-profit corporation in 2004, "The Justin Foundation endeavors to provide consumer support and advocacy for better treatment care on behalf of individuals and families affected by drug abuse." Visit the http://www.thejustinfoundation.org/ Cathie does not violate the terms of her settlement by discussing what happened to her son and Narconon but she does post this tribute on the Justin Foundation website: " The Justin Foundation, this website and this work are dedicated to the memory of Justin Smith, a young man who touched many people during his lifetime and who, through this work, continues to touch the lives of many people today" I am not bound by any agreement and think people should know what happened and why The Justin Foundation is such an important organization in California. If changes are being made to California Drug Rehab regulations, it is because groups like the Justin Foundation are helping inform people of what is needed and what is right. This is the docket of her court case. She also filed petitions on behalf of 2 minors who lost their father, a second victim in the accident, so that Narconon would pay for what it did to their father as well. Both cases were held in Riverside county and settled in 2003, 2002 respectively. Look in this folder for the complaint pages that spell out what happened. Narconon Arrowhead Grad Joe Meints later was the Director of Interventions for Addiction Help Services (September 2006 – January 2008 (1 year 5 months) . In this doc, we find Joe stating that he is working for Addiction Help Services and that it is a Narconon referral company. It has been found that this company is a fake referral company run by Eric Mitchell, et al . This company purports to refer people to appropriate drug and alcohol facilities but instead is a front group referral service for Narconon & Scientology related front group facilities unless forced by the customer to be sent anywhere but Narconon. They exist to send people to Narconon or another front group Novus Detox. Joe now works for a much better program called St. Gregory Center in Des Moines, Iowa, which uses traditional and some newer tools to help addicts. Glad to see him set free from the Narconon hold.
