spirit discerning person. So what or where then is the problem? There should be nodoubt about it that the imagination of man has led to this following verse that I havetaken from The Jerusalem Bible [Doubleday 1966].
Rom 1:22-23 "The more they called themselves philosophers, the more stupid they grewuntil they exchanged the glory of the immortal God for a worthless imitation, for theimage of mortal man
(the Trinity is an example)
, of birds, of quadrupeds and reptiles".
[This exchange of God seen as man and man seen as God is what I am talkingabout.]Thisinvention of the Trinity of God, as spelled out in the "Doctrine of the HolyTrinity", is a mirror image of what happened to man of the Old Testament era.
Rom 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart wasdarkened.
I doubt that anyone of average intelligence in our world has trouble understandingthe relationship between a father and his son. The idea of being subordinate to thefather, or obedient to his commands, respective of his judgment etc., are all traitsthat a loving son would demonstrate as did Jesus. And we also have testimony in ourbible that witness to this fact. But the "doctrine of the Trinity" undermines thisreality, in effect eliminating this father and son relationship, declaring them both co-equal in every sense of the word. (Have a look at the Athanasian Creed which states:"And in this Trinity none is afore or after Other, None is greater or less thanAnother, but the whole Three Persons are Co-eternal together, and Co-equal"). Thisis a far cry from Jesus being known as a priest, prophet, servant, King, governor,Son of David, & Son of Man, and above all, "Son of God". Scripture reads:
John10:29 "My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all" etc.
Here is what wasunderstood by the immediate followers and apostles of the early Church
:2 John 1:3 Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and fromthe Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
[It appears quiteclear to me regarding the distinction between the Father who is God, andJesus who is the son of God.]Another problem that the interpreters injected into our scriptures, regarding thistrinity, is the use of the word “LORD” or “Lord” when referring to the Father or tothe son. First off, at one point in time Jesus was made both Lord and Christ (Acts2:36). Before that YHWH, the Father was Lord. So when someone refers to JesusChrist, he is the Lord (1Cor 8:6). In the OT, The LORD, a substitute word forYHWH, creates confusion between the Father and the son for in the originalHebrew text there is no definite article “the”. So therefore YHWH was Lord, withno competition then, just as there is only one Lord for the Christians in Jesus Christ, and no competition, now.
