Anatomy of a Blog PostWriting Your First Blog Post
In the language of blogging, a new entry to your blog is called a “
post
.” Each new post is addedto the top of the blog. The purpose of this is to show the newest information first. Blogs areintended to be updated by the Blogger(s) regularly.
Once you have logged in to your blog, click on “
New Post
” from your dashboard.

Make sure that you are writing in “
Compose
” mode, not in “Edit HTML” mode. If necessary, click on the “Compose” tab to bring up the full toolbar shown below.
You will see a text area that looks similar to other Web-based text editors, like what youmight use to write email. Notice that there are tools for changing the way your text looks(bold, underline, font styles, colors, etc.) Don’t forget to use the most important tool:
Spell Checker!
 
Tags or Labels or Keywords
As librarians, we understand that adding a keyword (or tag or label) to a digital object providesthe user with important information and added value to the digital collection. Blogger uses theterminology “
label
” rather than keyword or tag.
Click on “
Show all
” to see all of the labels that have already been created for this blog. If possible, choose the label that best describes your blog post.
Click on the labels
to add them to your posting; add one or more labels to your post.
If you are creating new labels, separate your labels by a comma. After the comma, leavea space before writing the next word or phrase.
Once you have finished writing your post and assigning labels,
publish your post
.
View your blog
.

Editing Existing Posts
Don’t worry if you notice a mistake in your posts.
You can easily change your text.
Click on the “
Posting
” tab.
Click on the “
Edit Posts
” link.
Click on “
Edit
” next to the post you want to change.
Make the changes and click on “
Publish
” to re-publish the post.
Adding a Photo to Your Post
Photos or screenshots can be great ways to add visual interest to your post!
Click on the “
Image
” graphic from the editing toolbar.
Browse
your computer for the desired image.
Choose the positioning and size.
Upload
the image.
Click “
Done
.”
Publish
your blog post and view your blog.
