What people are saying about …
Scared
“om Davis weaves his heart or orphans onto every page. Te jour-ney o
Scared
might lead you on a journey o your own—helping theorphans among us.

“With uninching detail, om Davis uncovers the atrocity o the Arican AIDS epidemic and God’s impossible triumph in its midst. Both sweeping in scope and intimate in expression,
Scared
leaves thereader with one burning question: How can I help?”

“om Davis’s rst novel,
Scared
, is a startling beauty-or-ashes talethat takes readers on a journey to Swaziland and introduces themto the least o these Jesus speaks about in Matthew 25. You can’thelp but be changed by this heartbreaking, hope-ueling, oh-so-realstory.”
Claudia Mair Burney,

Zora and Nicky: A Novel in Black and White
“Evocative and intense,
Scared
cuts deep into your heart as you readalong. Healing lls the pages, yet there are no easy answers given, and it shows how each day is a struggle or the people o Swaziland

to even survive. Tat’s why the orphans and the widows need people who care. I loved how
Scared
showed that many o the sick anddying were truly victims o AIDS through no wrongdoing o theirown. I’ve rarely experienced this level o realism in a novel, especially in the CBA. It’s so realistic, it’s downright edgy. Like the Holocaust, there are some awul things that happen in this book. Unspeakablethings. But it also shows how God holds those who suer close toHis heart. You see that in this book in a way that is rarely portrayedin Christian ction. All o the ugly stu is not smoothed over, noris the God-given compassion. It’s graphic and harsh in some places, but so worth reading. I highly recommend it.

I have just began to read Scared by Tom Davis but, I can tell it is just as good as all his other books. It is a book I have had to read it in private as it can be overwhelming at times. I am sure that this story is telling many children's story.

Ah! I am in a hurry this morning; I am going to see my daughter who lives an hour away. I must be home before nightfall, and I have yet to take a shower. But a word catches my eye: Scared. Who isn't? So I start to read, and the time begins to slip away. I have met Adanna, and I want to stay with him... but I have to go now. Wait for me, Adanna. I'll be right back...
