ēmos is a non-partisan public policy research and advocacy organization. Headquartered inNew York City, Dēmos works with advocates and policymakers around the country in pur-suit of four overarching goals: a more equitable economy; a vibrant and inclusive democracy; anempowered public sector that works for the common good; and responsible U.S. engagement inan interdependent world. Dēmos was founded in 2000.In 2010,Dēmos entered into a publishing partnership with Te American Prospect, one of the na-tions premier magazines focussing on policy analysis, investigative journalism, and forward-look-ing solutions for the nation’s greatest challenges.
AUTHOR
Philip Harvey 
Professor Harvey received his B.A. degree from Yale University, his Ph.D. in economics from theNew School for Social Research, and his J.D. from Yale Law School. After clerking for the Hon-orable Robert L. Carter in the Southern District of New York, he worked as a Litigation Associ-ate specializing in employment disputes at the New York law rm of Debevoise and Plimpton. Healso has been a Visiting Scholar at the Russell Sage Foundation, a Visiting Professor of Law andEconomics at the Yale School of Organization and Management, and was the rst Joanne Wood-ward Professor of Public Policy at Sarah Lawrence College. Professor Harvey’s research focuses onpublic policy options for securing economic and social human rights, with a particular emphasison the right to work. He teaches Contracts, Labor and Employment Law, Law & Economics, andSocial Welfare Law and Policy.
