I started trading at age 18 with a good friend of mine when we were in undergrad at Arizona State. Somehow, we convinced his dad to give us $3,000 to put into a Scottrade account and let us trade our ideas. We we’re going to take trades on penny stocks that moved from $0.10 to $0.20 on a regular basis figuring we could make 50% returns on the average. Our first trade we took was on a mining company out of Canada where we picked up about $1,500 worth of stock one morning. We were freshman; young, naïve and full of ego, nothing could stop us. Oh, were we wrong. For two months we tried selling our shares and never found a buyer, our investment was worth $500 now. The market equalized us. The next few years in undergrad I spend my time reading every book I could find on trading and even took a job at Charles Schwab to be around the markets. After spending a few years working with an online start-up I made my way to a private fund in Scottsdale, Arizona working as a proprietary trend trader trading options and equities.
