Dunk It! @ Chingay parade 2011 Report
 Venue: Chingay Parade venue @ Singapore Flyer Date: 11&12 February 2011Time: 3:30pm 9pmAfter almost every major large scale event held in Singapore, organisersare faced with filthy and unsightly event sites, which eventually becomethe responsibility of the cleaners. To tackle this issue, the “Dunk it”initiative was introduced by ECO Singapore, during the National DayParade in 2006.Before the event, ECO Singapore held two briefings to teach thevolunteers about the tasks and remind the Intention of Dunk It!Programme.The primary objectives of the ECO Agents during events include thefollowing:Help Singaporean youths crystallize their environmental concerninto meaningful actionsEncourage the public to dispose of their trash into trash bins.Empower youths to influence the public to do their part inprotecting our environment

To put their knowledge to action, the volunteers wereinvolved in engaging activities:Engagement Act #1Participants were asked to take part at Million Acts of Green.The objective of the programme is giving the public the opportunity toshare, what they have done to reduce their environmental impact.Engagement Act #2“Thank You For Not Littering” badges were produced and distributed bythe ECO-Agents and public to openly thank the participants who weredoing the right thing, by binning their litters.

Engagement Act #3The Volunteers motivate the public to try the ECO Singaporequestionnaire. Objective of the questionnaire is to remind and check important environmental knowledge. The questions are about generaland regional environmentally topics.ECO-Agents at Work During the first day of the Chingay parade, the determination tocomplete their mission led the ECO- Agents to disregard the downpour in the late afternoon and continue with the tasks given.The passionate ECO-Agents reached out to over 900 participants duringthe two - day “Dunk it” operation at Chingay 2011.Majority of these participants fell within the age group of 19 – 55 years.The enthusiastic ECO-Agents all agreed that the engagement wasmeaningful and had indeed proved to be a unique experience.
