Overview of Energy Audit 3
Two representatives from ECO Singapore arrived at 8 am to prepare thenecessary logistics at the Community Hall near block 5.9 volunteers in total turned up. At 9:15 am, a briefing was conducted torun through with the volunteers the procedure to follow when visitingthe residents. Finally, we did a role-play to simulate a pair of volunteersvisiting 2 residents.Once the volunteers were clear on their tasks they were told to divideinto groups of 2, with a variety of language skills in each group. We hadpre-allocated the households to 19 groups of volunteers, with eachgroup assigned around 12 households. At 9:45 am, the volunteers collected their logistics. Each group wouldget a reusable bag containing the resident info sheets, 3Rs booklets, additional reusable bags, a lanyard, a clipboard, reminder medals, stickers. The volunteers then fanned out to the various blocks. The volunteersexplained the rationale and distributed the 3Rs booklets and reusablebags to the residentsBy 11.45am, all the volunteers had completed their allocated units andreturned to the Community Hall. After all the logistics were collected, the volunteers were debriefed. At12.30 pm, the programme officially ended.
Results
A total of 37 households went through the energy audit. The remainingresidents were not at home or were too busy.
Feedback
In the previous audit we had given many energy-saving tips to theresidents, so they were eager to learn more about the ways to reducetheir waste as well. Volunteers saw it as a great learning experience.

About half of the residents were not at home. Postersand/ or flyers should be given out in advance to remind residents to stayat home for the visit.A volunteer suggested using PDAs or tablets for storing the information,in order to save paper. Furthermore we can keep everything online, sothat the residents can just log in and upload their data. We wouldexplore this option when a suitable sponsor is found.
