ECO Living Programme @Lorong Lew LianAudit 6 (Recycling)

Overview
ECO Singapore is organising an ECO Living Programme for blocks 1 to 8at Lorong Lew Lian in conjuction with Braddell Heights Zone ‘B’Residents’ Committee (RC) with volunteers from Starbucks.ECO Living Programme is a community grassroots programme that aimsto relief the burden of low/ middle-income families while doing our bitfor the Earth. We will do this by performing energy, water and wasteaudits in HDB households in order to identify and advise on areas forimprovement.This audit was the fourth one for Lorong Lew Lian and focused on thetheme of “energy and water”.
Objectives
 
To create awareness about the door-to-door recycling collectionprogramme
 
 
To share with the residents tips on what can or cannot berecycled
 
 
To gather feedback from the residents
 Overview of Audit 6
A representative from ECO Singapore arrived at 8 am to prepare thenecessary logistics at the Community Hall near block 5.7 enthusiastic volunteers, including 2 from Starbucks participated in thisaudit. At 9.15am, the volunteers did a short self-introduction andcollected their logistics. Each volunteer would get a clipboardcontaining the resident info sheets, audit checklists, volunteer infosheet,feedback form and star stickers.

A briefing was conducted to run through with thevolunteers the procedure to follow when visiting theresidents.At 9.45am, the volunteers then fanned out to the various blocks.The volunteers were tasked to quiz the residents on their awareness ofrecycling and also gather feedback from them.By 11.45am, all the volunteers had completed their allocated units andreturned to the Community Hall.At 12.30pm, the programme officially ended.
Results
A total of 37 households went through the audit. 31 residents were notat home.
Feedback
Although the number of volunteers were small, but they were veryenthusiastic. Most had done the audit before and even the new onescould pick it up easily and enjoyed interacting with the residents!A feedback form was sent to volunteers and they shared that throughthis audit, they were able to understand some of the problems theresidents were facing. They suggested better use of rewards to motivateresidents. For example, some residents were looking forward to a rewardfor participating in all 6 audits (ie. collecting 6 stickers). Many were alsointerested in the paint-job that would be given to the top 5 savers.The volunteer debrief could be improved in the future to gatherfeedback directly.
