Congressional District. The survey was conducted by telephone between Oct. 1-2, 2008. The sample of respondents was drawn from an up-to-date voter file of all registered voters in the 25

Congressional District.Respondents were screened for their likelihood of voting in the November general election.

Democrat Dan Maffei holds a 49% to 31% lead over RepublicanDale Sweetland, with Green Populist candidate Howie Hawkinstaking 6% of the vote. The remaining 14% of the electorate isundecided. In mid-August, by comparison, Maffei

s lead overSweetland was 12 points (38% to 26%), with Hawkins at 9%, and27% undecided.

The increase in Maffei
!
s lead reflects an across-the-board increasein support for him among Democrats, independents andRepublicans. Maffei has solidified his support among Democratssince August, and now holds a 74% to 10% advantage overSweetland among registered Democrats. He has also boosted hissupport among independents by 14 points, and now holds a 51% to21% lead over Sweetland among unaffiliated voters.
