Over the years with Expedition Inspiration, I have had the deep satisfaction of witnessing extraordinary renement in the battle against breast cancer throughthe exchange of innovative research.e evolution of patient care since the inception of Expedition Inspiration15 years ago and within my own 12 years of breast cancer survival is directly related to the exponential strides made in breast cancer research. Citing just a fewexamples of this scientic progress… we now have better clarication of the risk factors associated with breast cancer, encouraging greater patient empowerment.Enhanced mammography techniques allow for earlier detection, positively aectingsurvivability. e ability to more precisely match patients to specic therapies hasresulted in more compassionate and eective treatment plans. Pharmaceuticalsthat can be taken orally have been developed to reduce the recurrence of breastcancers in certain survivors…and the list goes on. All of these breakthroughs took place as a result of the mentoring component of research… knowledge that was built upon previous discoveries. Sitting among aneager audience in the presence of world-class researchers during the
2010 OpenForum,
it struck me that
each scientic collaboration has the potential toinspire a chain reaction compounding a ripple eect of knowledge, one that may eventually lead to a cure as it reverberates through the scientic world
.
Mirroring this revelation, a local physician attending our
Medical Forum
, who, after engaging with our scientists, stated the experience
“will change the way I practice, and perhaps save a few lives.”
ough I wish so very much that loved ones who have fallen at the hands of thisdisease were here to witness our progress, I look to a future where we can one day tell our children,
“Once upon a time there was this disease…”
at day willcome, and you will be a part of it.I close with giving thanks to so very many heroes, too many to name. Fromour industrious volunteers, our benevolent event attendees, our distinguishedMedical Advisory Board, our dedicated and insightful Board of Directors, our brilliant Symposium attendees, our small and mighty sta, and, of course
,the support of you, our generous donors…thank you.
You have shown throughyour commitment to Expedition Inspiration that there are endless possibilitiesin the collaborative act of human endeavor…together we can be a part of tomorrow’s cure.
Let the Inspiration Continue!
