You can read my review of the course from Last year,
"I took this last year. It was the first year they did an online course. Some of the hardest days you have whether your a parent, caregiver or a professional are meltdowns. I know we all go through our fair share.
My son has good days and more challenging days. One of the toughest things we have to deal with is meltdowns. SO when I took the course last year, I was looking for some tips about this. I liked that Stanley I Greenspan, talked about being soothing in a storm. Once the meltdown starts you naturally want to calm them down and go from there.
It helped me to know that this happens a lot. That you sooth and once you can help sooth them then you can slowly re engage them. The post workshop was really helpful with this, as Rosemary White OTR/L and Stanley Greenspan talked about these meltdowns. Rosemary showed a clip of a child going through a meltdown and she used a very helpful technique. Even in the workshop the parents said after using this particular method it cut the meltdown time in half.
I tried this. We took our son to the Zoo. He was having a good time and then he gave us some signs that he was going into a meltdown. At first I did the usual worst thing that Greenspan says is the worst thing you can do. I tried to control him and be strict. Then I realized, that empathy is best and to be soothing. That helped and then we used this technique that Rosemary White showed. Wow that worked instantly he was calm and not screaming. He was beginning to engage again.
So those tips alone were worth their weight in gold. They went over some other helpful things, like what to do when your child regresses. That happens many times. You wonder what to do. He went into some great ideas and guides for that. I am taking this course again. The information was that helpful and that dynamic. I was able to immediately implement these tips. I highly recommend taking both courses.
I got to ask Rosemary White question and share it on the interactive forum. I got some great feedback collaboration and a wealth of ideas on how to handle different challenges with my son. The questions other participants asked Greenspan, helped me and many others. So its pretty terrific.
They also put the questions on audio format. It is really terrific because I was able to go back to that, and make some notes to use in my sessions. Its really quite something. I hope to see many of you there. Someday soon meet you all in person. So in short take the course, you will love it!"
