    The Reconstruction di Avi Mograbi: la traduzione, il sottotitolaggio e le relative problematiche - di R.Carbone, Dipartimento Lingue di Fondazione Milano

    The topic of subtitling is presented here in an experimental way. The translation of the documentary The Reconstruction by Avi Mograbi is analyzed. This film reconstructs the murder of the fifteen-year-olds boy Dani Katz, through the defendants depositions and other interviews. This is an israeli film, and some scenes are subtitled in english while other scenes are narrated in English. The translation issues, many typified in the subject’s literature, concern the cultural differences between the prototext and the metatext, but also text reduction, which is sometimes necessary in the case of subtitling. Moreover, many difficulties met during the translation are expounded on, particularly regarding the tight deadlines imposed by the working environement. A faulty source text, an overlapping between narrator and displays, the difficulty in understanding certain Arab names pronounced by the narrator and without the help of a script, or a legal terminology which requires specific correspondences in Italian, can cause problems to the translator.
