The Pareto Principle states that, for many events, roughly 80% of the effects comefrom 20% of the causes. You can read all about it at Wikipedia here-:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareto_principleI thought it would be useful to apply this to Trainers, Jockeys and Sires in horseracing across all three codes - Flat, All-Weather (AW) and National Hunt (NH). I havegone back 3 years and recorded all the winners and broken down all the stats. The summary info of where 80% of winners come from is broken down as follows.We can see that they are not too far off the 20% rule -:Flat Trainers - 24%AW Trainers - 31%NH Trainers - 18%Flat Jockeys - 19%AW Jockeys - 23%NH Jockeys - 20%Flat Sires - 24%AW Sires - 29%NH Sire - 30% The full stats for each of these is available on the separate tabs on the spreadsheet.I am going to test run a little mini-ratings system to pick out the strongest Trainer- Jockey-Sire contenders each day from a value perspective and see if we can't have alittle fun with it.
