PRECEDE
By Framen Stewart
We were children once on a warm summer’s day,
 Near each
other’s
hearts in an innocent, carefree way.The trees were tall and real but so were we,Like falling leaves in flight that we could not see. We drank our Coke from bottles of dusty-green, We spoke in hushed whispers of young boys, hoping to be seen. The world we gazed upon we saw in wide wonder,Never feeling the rain or hearing its long-distant thunder. We girls stuck together, come thick or thin,Gazing upon our tiny loves and viewing them one day as men.Our dogs were our princes from a time so long ago,Our bicycles were our chariots decorated nicely, or we thought so.
We were sisters, daughters and for some mother’s to
-be,Slaves to our notions, our dreams, all wanted to be free. We looked to beautiful Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella, Waiting so anxiously, with bated breath, for our one-true-fella. We saw our future and we saw it so crisp and so clear,Bound
to our heart’s desires, forever together and always so near.
Enjoined we filled our small lives with such grown-up living,
