About ISSJS
The International Summer School for Jainstudies (ISSJS) provides an important link between the Jain community and theacademic world. The Jain communityhas, and continues to have, a largeimpact on Indian religious and culturallife, despite the small numbers. Theacademic study of Jainism is still anundeveloped area of research. The spiritof the ISSJS is to work towards rectifyingthis omission in scholarly inquiry byfostering an interest in Jainism inuniversities around the world.ISSJS is a program run by the InternationalSchool for Jain Studies (ISJS), a sub-committee of the Mahavir Vision Inc. anon-profit, tax exempt, 501 C-3organization. ISJS works in collaborationwith the Committee on the AcademicStudies of Jainism in North America(ASJNA), Federation of Jain Associationsin North America (JAINA), World Councilof Jain Academies (WCJA), and JainAcademic Foundation of North America(JAFNA) the Pluralism Project at HarvardUniversity, University of Ottawa,American Institute of Indian studies (AIIS)and Shastri Indo Canadian Institute (SICI).The entire program in India is run andadministered by an independent Indiaregistered Indian organization, ISJS NewDelhi, India.ISSJS was started in 2005. Since then four ISSJS programs have been conductedand attended by over 80 students andscholars from USA, Canada, Thailand,Russia and Cuba.N. S.
