 ABSTRACT
A fluorescence flow cell having a capillary throughwhich a sample fluid is moved, an optical source thatdirects an exposing
 beam
of light through the samplefluid, a collector that collects fluorescent light from theexposed region of the sample and directs such collectedlight to a detector. A
 beam
blocker prevents light that isscattered by the capillary walls from reaching the de
-
tector, thereby improving the signal
-
to-noise ratio of the system. The
beam
blocker
also
has
a
pair of legs thatprevent the sample fluid from being exposed by eitherthe exposing light or the collected light outside of theexposing region. The structure
of
the components ena
-
bles the various components to be quickly and accu
-
rately assembled and enables easy replacement of thecapillary.
