Moldova’s government has been reforming and modernizing its health care system, which suffers from insufficient funding and outdated equipment. To address these problems, the Moldovan Ministry of Health turned to IFC to attract private sector investors through Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) in the health sector. Its first health PPP transaction will modernize diagnostic imaging and radiology services for public patients at the Republican Hospital in Chisinau, thereby addressing an important gap in existing healthcare services.

Madinah, Saudi Arabia, is a major destination point for pilgrims and a designated center for knowledge-based industry in the country. The Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz International Airport, which serves the Madinah region, has not been able to adequately cater to the growing numbers of passengers due to inadequate infrastructure. IFC played a key role as lead advisor in helping Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) attract a reliable investor to expand, modernize and operate the airport. The project fulfilled the twin objectives of introducing private sector expertise and developing a significant, stable revenue stream for the government.

Les partenaires privés investissent 7 milliards de dollars américains afin de développer et d’améliorer les systèmes d’adduction d’eau et d’assainissement, ce qui devrait se traduire par un meilleur service, des tarifs moins élevés et une réduction considérable des fuites et des raccordements illégaux.

Dans le cadre d’un programme de réforme majeur du secteur portuaire, le gouvernement de l’Etat de Pernambuco, au Nord-est du Brésil, a fait appel à IFC en tant que conseiller principal pour la privatisation du premier terminal à conteneurs (TECON) au Port de Suape. International Container Terminal Services (ICTSI), une société philippine, a remporté l’appel d’offres public pour construire et exploiter le terminal à conteneur pendant une période de 30 ans. L’accord a été signé en mars 2001 et le terminal à conteneurs a démarré ses activités trois mois plus tard.
