Badri G. Rickhi, MD, is clinical associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; and the director, research chair, and founding member of the Canadian Institute of Natural and Integrative Medicine, also in Calgary. He received his fellowship in psychiatry from the University of Toronto in 1980 and his certification in medical acupuncture from the University of Alberta in 1992. He was recently awarded the prestigious Dr Rogers Prize for being an “agent of change” in creating an integrative approach to medical practice. Dr Rickhi epitomizes the integrative doctor as he has trained in a wide variety of therapies, including homeopathy, Ayurvedic medicine, Tibetan medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, Chinese and Ryodoraku acupuncture, and German biological medicine, He has also studied spirituality and Eastern philosophy. Dr Rickhi has served as an advisor to Health Canada and the World Health Organization on complementary therapies.
