ARRA Impacts on Prince George’s County – October 19, 2009
To date, at least
$400 million
has been allocated to entities in Prince George’s County under the AmericanRecovery and Reinvestment Act. This analysis represents a preliminary composite of funding allocatedthrough federal, state and local programs and grants and includes contracts awarded to local businesses. Thisinformation is preliminary as we await for the official comprehensive report on Recovery Act impact fromthe Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board on October 30.
ARRA – PG – LOCAL BUSINESS – $23,000,000
Last week, the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board released its first report on a portion of Recovery Act spending that recipients have reported on so far.

Contracts totaling $16 billion from the Recovery Act, or 2% of total spending, created orsaved more than 30,000 jobs nationwide.

In Maryland, contracts totaling $590 million helped create or save 966 jobs.
•
 
In Prince George’s County, $23 million helped save or create 241 jobs.
ARRA - PG TRANSPORTATION – $116,247,950MD State Highway
 Resurfacing – Total: $29.9 million
Includes:$1.7 million to resurface Route 650 from MD 410 to Holton Lane$2.2 million to resurface MD 212 from the DC Line to Sargent Road$2.3 million to resurface MD 214 from Cindy Lane to Brightseat Road$2.3 million to resurface MD 410 from MD 201 to Riverdale Road$7.6 million to resurface I-95 from MD 5 to Darcy Road
 Bridges – Total: $14.41 million
Includes:$1.9 million to upgrade the MD 725 Bridge over Federal Spring Branch$1.8 million to upgrade the Forestville Road Bridge over I-95$1.2 million for upgrades to the Berwyn Road Bridge over Indian Creek $6.0 million for upgrades to the MD 201 Bridge over I-95
Congestion Management – Total: $1.8 million
$1.8 million for congestion management on MD 410 at MD 500.
 Environmental Projects - $1.0 million
$400,000 for environmental work on the 1-95 median between I-495 and MD 100$600,000 for environmental work at the I-495/I-95 interchangeThe State Highway Administration will also undertake $13.1 million to improve highway safety in PrinceGeorge’s County. In addition, Prince George’s County received $7.4 million to utilize for local highwayprojects.
 
 
Transit
Prince George’s County received $7.1 million in transit funding which will include heavy duty busreplacements.Prince George’s County will benefit from $3.524 million in funding for MARC, including $2.1 million torehabilitate the platform at the Laurel MARC station, and $200,000 for MARC Muirkirk Sidewalk RetainingWall Repair.The City of Laurel CTC received $600,000 for an Automatic Vehicle Locator System.WMATA received $38 million for upgrades in Prince George’s County.
ARRA – PG ENVIRONMENT - $6,333,900
Governor O’Malley announced 95 proposed Maryland water quality and drinking water projects totaling$119.2 million to receive low interest loans and/or grants. The proposed funds were allocated based onreadiness to proceed, as well as maximum environmental and health benefits. The Maryland Department of the Environment received $3.7 billion in requests for water/wastewater projects.

 On February 20, Governor O’Malley announced that the funding made available in the Recovery Act wouldenable each school district in Maryland to be made whole under his budget for Fiscal 2010 and that theGeographic Cost of Education Index would be funded at 100 percent for the first time.

Energy Efficiency and Community BlockGrant Program
which provides for formula grants for projects to reduce total energy use and fossil fuelemissions, as well as improve energy efficiency. The following Prince George’s County entities receivedfunding:

ARRA – PG – PUBLIC SAFETY – $15,633,923
The Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention will receive $26.5 million in Byrne JAG funding tosupport the creation and retention of public safety-related jobs while also removing warranted fugitives fromthe streets; upgrading and purchasing equipment, and gang enforcement and gun trafficking initiatives.
