This explanation is a very interesting one. But the wikipedia one also makes sense, if you think that the Hanseatic League was THE most powerful association of traders and merchants in the Middle Ages. So it's not a Hanseatic tribe, but the Hanseatic League. They controlled trade in Europe for more than 200 years and they were German traders from Lubeck, Hamburg, Bremen and other German cities.

This is just one example of how truth is distorted by ignorance and spread to be truth. To seek truth as truth is the greatest achievement of humanity.
