All one needs to do is take an amble throughthe hallways of Luther College’s high schooland university campuses to see the manytypes of legacy that live at Luther. From thedisplay cases full of newspaper clippingsannouncing the successes of students pastand present at Luther College High Schoolto the donated artwork and graduation photos covering the walls atLuther College at the University of Regina, there exist many proud visualmarkers at both campuses of the memories, examples, and good works of students and friends of the College.While legacies are often understood to be gifts or bequests physical ormonetary in nature, they can take many other forms. Legacies can also be built out of the ideas, creative works, acts of social justice, beliefs andvalues of individual people. In this issue of
The Luther Story
, we take a broad view of the term “legacy,” telling the stories of alumni and friendswho have given of their time, treasure, creativity and passions at Lutherand in their broader communities.As alumni and friends of Luther College, we all share in an institutionallegacy that stretches back nearly 100 years. The College is a place knownfor its academic excellence, liberal arts focus, and attention to individualstudents, each of these being rooted in Luther’s Christian heritage.Luther’s legacy, then, lies not only in its values and history, but also (andmost importantly) in its people.
