The Golden Globe Picks for 2010
 January 15, 2011
Predicting the future is impossible andfolly for anyone with an ego, whether itis the direction of stocks and theeconomy or the winners of awards. So,
let’s give it a try because it’s too much
damn fun!The Golden Globes are the most eclecticof awards because the judges are so strange. Why? They
are foreign and they are reporters…who can figure these
people out? From their website, here is the description of who the judges are and how they choose their winners:
“The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) is a non
-profit organization, themembers of which are international journalists based in Southern California. The HFPAhas about 90 members who disseminate information about movies and television to theworld through their various publications throughout the world. HFPA members attendmore than 300 interviews and countless movie and television screenings throughouteach year.

You can see they don
t write about entertainment but
disseminate information
. It
s good to see they do attendscreenings though, as that
s probably a good thing.You can
tell they’re a bit quirky by their email address
instructions:
Email: info at hfpa.org - Note: when sending an email, the spaces and "at" must bereplaced by "@"

Anyone who won’t put the “@” in their email address
andhyperlink it on their own web site
is a bit odd, don’t you
think? So, given this in-depth analysis of the organization behindthe Golden Globes and their tendency to pick repeat
winners, MarketBOB (that’s me) foolishly handicaps the
nominees and predicts the future winners. Of course, thisalso reflects my own personal tastes and impeccable judgment as a movie reviewer and supporter of the Pythonschool of rewarding
“something completely different”.
Hell, someone has to support artists trying to break out of the everyday conservative rut of doing the same damnthing for a few bucks.

because it is partially true, hopeful aboutthe future and human in its portrayal of young billionaires with geeky integrity andvision.

Probably not so odd if you're a Unix server. They use ! and & and other symbols to tell you where to point it. (Just wanted to make the point because of Social Network, not everything was user-friendly and there were barriers to entry). Supporting Actor and Actress were especially tight categories. Have been enjoying following the Live Blogs about the Golden Globes. Foreign Press are important.

Happy Natalie Portman won, but I don't really see the fuss about The Social Network :/

Happy Natalie Portman won for Black Swan. But Johnny Depp didn't get anything?? Very sad.
