Midnight In Paris
 February 11, 2012
Woody Allen’s postcards of Parisplays like a laundry list of who’s whoin the 1920’s, interspersed with the
most unlikely cast of shallowcontemporary characters wrestlingwith the elitist problems of our currentage. Other than the picturesquescenes of Paris, there is little to love inthis midnight rambler of a movie.

his career decision to abandon the forgettable life of aHollywood screenwriter for the romance and struggle of an ex-patriot novelist, a la Hemingway and Fitzgerald.Gil spends his days making excuses and his nights in geewhiz amazement at the cavalcade of luminaries prancing
before his eyes. It’s all too cute and contrived and Gil
ends up being irritating and detached to either world heinhabits; the past or the present.
From Oscar’s point of vie
w, this picture has fournominations in what is shaping up as one of the poorestyears for cinema in some time.
