THIRST journal entry March 22, 2009I got chill bumps today while leading Bible study. I had six preteen girls wrist deep in clay, molding, forming, reshaping, and generally having a blast. They wereinstructed to make an oil lamp like a 12 year old Jesus mayhave used. We talked about how He probably watchedMary as she made some items to be used around the house.Perhaps Jesus observed the women in the marketplacethrowing clay pots and vessels that were as beautiful asmasterpieces? Then I read "Yet, O LORD, you are our Father. We are theclay, you are the potter, we are all work of your hand."Isaiah 64:8I almost could not catch my breath as I looked up and sawthe girls staring at me. They were silent and in awe. It wasa God moment! He was standing next to me as I read tothese six young ladies, and they became
thirsty!
I couldsee it happening! I saw the Holy Spirit working in eachone of His children.Picture them sitting there with their hands covered anddirty with clay. Maybe it was because their hands werecovered in clay that their hearts were open to the Word?-Heather Marshall/THIRST Lay Leader
Look What God Is Doing!
At the request of a spiritual mentor Heather Marshall started journaling her experiences in leading McKendree’s THIRST ministry. The following is an entry that she wanted to share with all of you.
Finding Christ in Easter Again
This year’s Easter egg huntwill come with greatanticipation as we have justturned the one-year corner with a renewed emphasis onthe children in our church andour community.Personally, I have only borewitness to this event once(last year) as I am stillrelatively new to McKendree.I can say, however, that as I picked up the kids in the busfrom the Hooper’s house Iwas extremely impressed withwhat I saw.Easter is my favorite spiritualtime of year
and
my leastfavorite holiday of the year. It’s my least favorite holiday because it has in fact becomeanother one of those over-commercialized profitventures for candymanufacturers and kid- product moguls. But after noticing theinnocent delight on thechildren’s faces and seeingthem spend the afternoon inthe presence of Christ-centered families like theHooper’s, the Hattan’s, andthe Marshall’s just to name afew, I realized that I haveallowed myself to be caughtup in focusing on what’swrong with Easter instead of the risen Christ.Thank you Hooper’s, thank you Care & Prayer Partners, thank you THIRST leaders, and thank you church for teaching our children whatEaster is all about. Jesus hasrisen and He is alive!- Kevin Sparkman
