Wednesday Night Dinner issues
Since inviting the Room In The Inn guests to the FellowshipHall this season, we have been having issues with theWed. Night Dinner event. Mostly, these are lying with nothaving enough food to accommodate the inclusion ofthe 14 extra hungry men.The other issue is getting the men to the church at anearlier time. The church staff is working with Campus for Human Development on getting this to happen as soonas possible. To resolve this, we must first collectively have the mindsetas a church that from November through March the RITIdinner and Wed. Night Dinner is ONE event. Second, please note that there is now a suggested donation of$5.00 per person for Wed. Night Dinner. Full participation inthis by everyone who is able to donate is highlyencouraged.Lastly, the following options have been put into placeand will be implemented as soon as possible for participation in Wed. Night Dinner:1)Volunteer to prepare Wed. Night Dinner (currentlyaround 75 guests including the RITI guests).2)Wed. Night Dinner sponsorship - $80 (this willsupplement the RITI guest’s meal)3)Volunteer to prepare one of four portions of the Wed.Night Dinner (main course, side dish, salad, or dessert -for 75 guests)
Ingrid McIntyre
has volunteered to coordinate the Wed.Night Dinner event at McKendree. If you ever wish tovolunteer to prepare a portion of the Wed. Night meal,(continued on Page 2)

The Chrismon Tree
Traditionally, our church hasdisplayed a Chrismon Tree inthe Worship Center during theAdvent season. What is aChrismon? Chrismon’s areChristmas tree decorationsthat teach the word of God.

Chrismon is a combination of two words:Christ and monogram. Thus the Chrismontree bears specific symbols or monograms about our Savior andsymbolizes the purity, perfection, majesty, and glory of the Son of God.Originated in the 1950’s by the LutheranChurch, many congregations likeMcKendree began displaying treesadorned with delicate, homemade, gold and white ornaments. Sadly,McKendree’s Chrismon collection hasaged poorly. The once beautifulcollection is tattered and torn and readyfor retirement. This advent season we are delighted todisplay an evergreen tree (representingeternal life) in the lobby of our church. Our Youth are creating delicate paper Chrismon’s, representing Christ’s life, toadorn the tree. Our hope is to have anew, more elaborate, Chrismoncollection ready to display next year, butwhat a wonderful opportunity this year’sneed presents to our youth – a chanceto learn more about and to share thelove of Christ! We still need help! Donation of white or clear tree lights and volunteers to assistthe youth with this special lesson.Additionally, we need a team of lovingand creative people to take on the task of creating a new Chrismon collectionfor future years. If you are able to help, please contact Karen Hattan atkaren@mckendreetoday.com or call615.271.2600.
