Multiplication and division by 10, 100, 1000 causes digits to move position.
Critical Challenge:
Devise a game for fellow Year 6 pupils to reinforce and give practice of multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 or1000. (Design To Spec)
Background Knowledge:
Children need to understand what happens to numbers when they are multiplied and divided by 10, 100 or 1000. . They will also needto be familiar with maths games and decide what makes games fun. They should be aware of the importance of skill, luck andfairness in games.
Criteria for Judgement:
Children should come up with criteria which will ensure that:The game meets the maths learning objective – the enduring understanding is reinforced.Others can understand how to play the game – the game is not overly complexThe game is enjoyable for the players - there is evidence of skill, luck and fairness

Learning Activities:
In groups of three children will plan how they can best meet the criteria to devise a game. They will need toreview the maths objective and decide what format their game should take. They might use one of the GOs on offer to supporttheir task. They must decide how to use prior knowledge of games to decide what is successful and what less so. They will have towork out methods of time management within the group to ensure success.
Assessment for Learning:
Observing dialogue as children work through their task. Check interpretation of enduring understanding.

Completed games will be evaluated by other classes (alongside each classes own criteria). Pupils will thenreview their game
