    A new state regulation allows gas chamber manufacturers in NC to inspect their own equipment! Is this fair? This letter was written by the maker of the gas chamber at Sampson County Animal Shelter, giving the OK to put it back in operation. It does not give gas readings from the monitor. Why would a manufacturer say that there is anything wrong with his own machines?

    This gas chamber exploded in 2008 at Iredell County Animal Control with 10 dogs inside. The invoice shows that the chamber was recycled, having originally been sold to Union County.

    Inspection at Rockingham County Animal Control shows that the purge valve for the gas chamber had been installed backwards. Workers were exposed to high levels of Carbon Monoxide for several years.

  • Columbus County Gas Leak

    Columbus County Animal Control at Whiteville, North Carolina. The attached 5 pages, from the inspection by NC Department of Labor, show a Carbon Monoxide leak of 223 ppm, which exceeds the OSHA ceiling limit. The leak occured each time the gas cylinder valve was opened.
