Kay's Simple Colorplay Shawl
Finished Size:
34” length x 70” width
MATERIALS
Dk or worsted weight wool yarn, approximately 850 yardsCircular knitting needle, size 10 (6.00 mm) or size needed to obtain gaugeMarkers
Gauge:
In garter stitch (knit every row), 14 sts and 28 rows = 4”
 Note:
Shawl is worked from the back of neck to the point.
BODY
Cast on 5 sts
loosely
.
Row 1:
Knit across.
 Note:
Increases
are made by knitting into the
front
and
back 
of the stitch indicated.
Row 2
(Right side)
:
Increase 4 times, K1: 9 sts.
Note:
Mark Row 2 as
right
side.
Row 3:
Knit across.
 Helpful Hint:
 
 I always place a safety pin marker on the edge of my
right 
side row.When I see the safety pin, I know that this is the row that has all the increases
 .
 As I work my rows, I move it up.
Row 4:
Increase, K2, increase, place marker, increase, K2, increase, K1: 13 sts.
Row 5:
Knit across.
Row 6:
Increase, knit across to within one stitch of center marker, increase, SM (slipmarker), increase, knit across to last 2 sts, increase, K1: 17 sts.Repeat Rows 5 and 6, 72 times, then repeat Row 5 once
more
: 305 sts.Do
not
finish off.
BOTTOM BORDER 
 Note:
 
This border is worked 
 perpendicular 
to the bottom edge of the shawl.
 Each
K2 tog at the end of Row 1 decreases the number of sts along the bottom edge of the shawl. When using a variegated or hand painted yarn, it gives a
color block 
element to the edge.
