  • Infectious Disease Workshop << PKIDs.org

PKIDs' Infectious Disease Workshop (IDW), is an educational tool for people of all ages and with all levels of understanding about infectious diseases. In this workshop, you will learn about bacteria and viruses, how to prevent infections, how to prepare for a bioterrorist attack or other disaster, how to keep athletes healthy, how to eliminate the social stigma that too often accompanies diseases such as HIV or hepatitis C, and so much more. We hope that both instructors and participants come away from this workshop feeling comfortable with their new level of education on infectious diseases. The IDW is designed to “train-the-trainer,” providing instructors not only with background materials but also with age-appropriate activities for the participants. Instructors do not need to be professional educators to use these materials. They were designed with both educators and laypersons in mind. View the entire workshop @ http://pkids.org/ip_idw.php

  • Flu Prevention Poster << PKIDs.org

Free flu prevention poster for anyone's use. Learn more below. Medical historians believe that influenza became a human disease about 6000 years ago. Despite the enormous scientific, medical and technological sophistication we enjoy today, influenza, combined with pneumonia, is a leading cause of death in the United States. On average, 36,000 individuals die annually from influenza-related causes and over 200,000 are hospitalized. Every year, five to 20 percent of those persons living in the United States will become infected. As individuals, we want to protect ourselves against a largely preventable disease. As a community, we must get vaccinated to protect our youngest and oldest citizens—those most at risk not only for infection, but for the complications that can arise from infection. PKIDs’ Flu’s Gonna Lose campaign urges family and community members to spread the health by refusing the opportunity to experience the vagaries of this deadly disease and instead, offer up an arm to immunization, wash our hands, cover our coughs and sneezes, and stay home to stop the spread of disease.
