An epic
motion
picture from Scandinavia tied Sundaywith
an
intimate film from the
United Kingdom
as
the favorite narrative features
of
the Palm Springs International
Film
Festival, which concludes today.
Both
got a ton
of
votes.Festival Board Chairman Earl Greenburg said the festivalbroke last year's attendance record
of
105,000 people by Friday, and it could break a national record for gross ticket sales."After looking at
our
ticket purchases, I
am
totally confident we will be the
No.1
grossing festival, in terms
of
ticketsales, in the country,"
Greenburg
said from
home
Sunday.
The
Seattle International Film Festival last
reponed
at-
tendance
of
150,000,
but Greenburg
said,
"I
think
our
gros:ticket sales were a little bit higher."
He
expected attendance to hit 114,000 to 115,000,
whid
would be another big jump.
The
12-day festival also set a record with
51
7 screenings
0
232 films, which programming director Carl Spence said athe awards ceremony at
Palm
Springs High School was
3(
more than
planned.
The
festival added screenings fron9 a.m. to
11
p.m.,
causing concern about filling the theater:
and
adding stress
on
the theater staffs.
"My
worst fears never came to fruition," Spence said
