LOW IMPACT BUSHWALKING & CAMPINGMinimal Impact
Responsible bushwalking and camping are very important for the preservation of ourwilderness areas. Low impact bushwalking and camping are considered the norm these daysand are essential if we are to maintain wilderness areas for posterity.
PRINCIPLES OF LOW IMPACT BUSHWALKING & CAMPING
The following are guiding principles for low impact bushwalking and camping:

Plan and Prepare.

Check conditions prior to arrival.

Use a light-weight stove
minimise campfire use. Ensure any campfires areextinguished prior to moving on and going to bed.

Do not feed the wildlife
intentionally or unintentionally.

Carry out what you carry in.

Leave nothing but footprints.

Human waste should be buried in holes at least 20cm deep. Toilet paper and hygieneproducts should be carried out (prepare for this prior to the trip).

Always walk on the track even where wet, if safe to do so. Track widening is a majorissue in the wilderness. Stay behind safety barriers.

Campsites should be at least 100m away from waterways.

Be respectful of other walkers and campers
minimise noise.

Don’t remove items from t
he wilderness (other than rubbish).
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

Pass on complete details of your trip to a responsible person, including route, anypossible detours, start and finishing times, medical conditions, when returned, etc.

Carry an emergency beacon
use as a last resort only.
