NEWS RELEASE
ARBORFIELD’ S GREEN-FIELD BATTLE
GOES TO WHITEHALL

AG-RAG, Arborfield Garrison – Residents Action Group, are taking their battle
to stop development on green-field sites in Arborfield to Whitehall, with letters
being sent to the Prime Minister, Nick Clegg and other senior Government
ministers.

The Chairman of the Group, Martin Rutter, has written to David Cameron and Eric

Pickles, the new Communities and Local Government Minister, asking them not
to waste any time in delivering their manifesto promise to abolish the South East
Regional Planning quango and their housing plan.

Martin explains. ‘The Conservative’s made an election promise to put the

responsibility for planning development back to local authorities and its
people. Scrapping the plan would mean Wokingham Borough Council
would no longer be forced to build such vast numbers of new homes in
the area, and allow local residents to have a greater say in where

development take place.’ He continues.‘It would prevent huge swathes
of green-fields being destroyed by bulldozers and the Council would
immediately stop wasting tax payer’s money in delivering the last
Governments unrealistic and unwanted policies.’

A letter is also being sent to Dr Liam Fox, Secretary of State for Defence, asking him to confirm if the Garrison is to be closed, and if so, when? Martin concludes. ‘A firm decision would mean the local community could put forward

more sensible and coherent suggestions on how best to make use of
the brown-field land as and when it becomes available.’
