I was born in America, nineteen forty-seven, blue collar family, neighborhood and town. Workers were at least given token respect by their masters. Those days are gone. Costs went up, earnings went down. I spent life as a common labourer, proud of it. I saw America turn from a beacon of hope and freedom to a vicious aggressor, ruled by a ruthless capitalist regime. A shiny apple rotten at the core. In the new millennium, we regressed to blatant class warfare. We enter a new Dark Age, which may rival the old for suffering and oppression. With technology that could create a world of peace and prosperity and preserve a beautiful, ecologically sound planet, we choose destruction instead; war not peace, fear not joy, greed not generosity and death not life. I am overcome with sorrow. When I hear my grandson's laughter, tears fill my eyes. I cringe at the thought of what tomorrow holds for him. I dreamed of peace in my lifetime. Now I despair for the future.
