Bosch 1617EVSEveryone knows the great quality of Bosch tools. If you never have used one, you are infor a real treat. Bosch gets it right when they make their designs. The 1617 series has been wildly successful for Bosch because the router works well. Contrary to popular  belief, you do not need a super huge router to get things done. The plunge base isavailable for all of your plunge routing needs. This gives you the use of two differentrouting styles from one router. It’s like getting two routers for the price of one. This isan example of working smart. Not only that but the combination pack is generally moreaffordable than if you bought the expensive big router or two routers to meet all the needsin your shop. Saving money never looked or worked this good! Using the combo pack 1617EVSPK in arouter tableis even better since you can mount the fixed base onto theinsert and leave it there. The plunge base is there for other needs in your shop.Pros and consAll routers have things about them you like and dislike, and Bosch is no exception. Iwould like to add that the pros certainly outweigh the cons in this example. Anythingnegative does not mean you should not buy the router, I have one in my shop.Cons2 wrench collet change. This is a standard Bosch design. The small wrench grips themotor spindle and the larger one removes the collet. You have to turn each wrenchagainst each other. Knowing in advance that this is a knuckle buster can help you betready for it. If you have the router mounted onto a router table insert, it makes the jobmuch easier. Other routers have a pin that you push in and then use a wrench to loosenthe collet. While this may seem easier, it’s a pain for me to hold the button and turn thewrench. While the Bosch system is somewhat clunky it is easier than holding a button.Changing out the bit after you loosen the collet is straight forward.Height adjustment knob is too close to the base of the router making it difficult to turn.You really can’t get your fingers all the way around the knob so it’s a little morechallenging to make small adjustments.Switch
