I spent a few days in early July atthe Roswell anniversary festivalwhere I had the chance to meet withboth Ufologists and members of thepublic alike. I hadalso attended the50

anniversarycelebration in1997 so it wasnostalgic to beback. TheInternationalUFO Museumwas larger than Iremembered itand I was veryimpressed by the museum library’sextensive collection of UFO relatedbooks and periodicals.What really struck me was thesense of UFO history that Roswellevoked and it made me stop and ask myself whether we are any closer tounderstanding the UFO phenomenonafter 60 years of investigation andresearch. As J. Allen Hynek oncesaid, we suffer from an “embarrass-ment of riches”—that is, we have anenormous amount of collected UFOdata, but what are we to make of it?MUFON is proud to announce that wehave formed two research teams thatwill be actively looking at that data: theUFO History team and the AlienAbduction research team. Reading originalcorrespondence between Ruppelt andother well known figures of the time inboth the UFO and scientific andmilitary communities evoked the samefeelings of awe and inspiration that Ifelt being in Roswell.
