  • SEB report: New FX Scorecard sees Swedish currency strengthening

SEB’s experts, in a new Currency Strategy report, say market uncertainty justifies a defensive strategy in the coming month but sees some stability returning towards the end of June assuming Greece elects a pro-bailout government and Spain receives a bank recapitalisation package. SEB's FX Scorecard, a key new feature introduced in today's report, shows the Swedish krona is likely to strengthen the most over the coming six months, followed by the Australian dollar and the Norwegian krone. Japanese yen and Swiss franc are likely to weaken the most.

  • SEB report: Selected bonds good choice in difficult markets

Investing in high-yield or emerging market bonds are two attractive alternatives in the current uncertain market environment. For those willing to bear the risk of owning equities, investing in companies with high dividend yields is also a good option, SEB’s investment experts say in a new issue of Investment Outlook.

  • SEB report: crude oil prices to stay steady

Despite apparent moves by Saudi Arabia, aided by increasing production from Iraq and Libya, to push the price of crude oil down towards the 100 US dollar a barrel market, SEB analysts maintain their forecasts that prices will hover around the 115 dollars/barrel mark for Q2 and Q3 rising to 120 US dollars/barrel at the end of the year.

  • SEB report: Commodity prices remain under pressure

SEB’s experts in a new issue of Commodities Monthly forecast that commodity prices remain under pressure from deteriorating economic conditions in the eurozone and loss of bullish momentum in the US following disappointing growth and employment data. Chinese manufacturing PMIs have stabilised with improvements increasing the likelihood of a soft landing. Slower food price inflation should provide scope for Chinese authorities to ease monetary policy should it become necessary to support economic growth.

  • SEB report: Crisis strategy shifts, Spanish bail-out

In a new issue of Nordic Outlook, SEB’s economists say the world economy has lost some momentum and that growth is not self-perpetuating but is instead vulnerable to reversals. Emerging economies – together with a cautious stabilisation in the United States – are sustaining the world economy but are not enough to lift it.

  • SEB report: New pro bail-out government expected in Greece

A Greek parliamentary election scheduled for May 6 risks upsetting the balance achieved by the present caretaker government and derail the current rescue package. However, we believe the most likely outcome is a pro bail-out government coalition between New Democracy and Pasok, although other outcomes are possible, writes SEB’s economists in a new research note.
