Cross Stitch Cable Beanie
My boys like their hats made with finer gauge yarn so that they fit comfortably undervarious Winter sports helmets. Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sport is one of their favorites.The dropped stitch cable gives it a little pizzazz and you don’t need a cable needle.
Size:
Large (20”) This will fit most adults comfortably. Size can be adjusted by usingsmaller or larger needles. Pattern is a multiple of 10, divisible by 4.
Gauge:
6 Stitches to 1”
Materials:
1 skein of Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sport, 16” circular needles in sizes 6 & 4,
double pointed needles in size 6, four stitch markers, tapestry needle

K = knit stitchP = purl stitchWYIB = with yarn in back K2tog = knit 2 stitches together (right leaning decrease)K2back = knit 2 stitches together through the back loops (left leaning decrease)Cast on 120 stitches, using larger needle. Place stitch marker and join stitches beingcareful not to twist them.
Cross Stitch Cable RibRow 1:
Using smaller needle, knit 1 row.
Row 2:
*K4, P2, K2, P2*, repeating instructions between ** across row.
Row 3:
*K4 wrapping yarn twice around each knit stitch, P2, K2, P2*, repeatinginstructions between ** across row.
Row 4:
*WYIB slip next 4 stitches to right hand needle dropping extra wrap of each
stitch. With left hand needle pass the first 2 passed stitches over the 2
nd
2. Return these 4stitches to the left hand needle and knit across them, P2, K2, P2*, repeating instructionsbetween ** across row.Continue repeating rows 2, 3, and 4 until piece measures 1.75” or desired width, You’llhave cabled approximately 4 times.

Row 1: *K4, P2, K2, P2*, repeat instruction between ** across row.Repeat this rib pattern for 5.5” or desired length.Move first marker over 2 stitches (center of a K4 section). Place 3 more markers evenlyevery 30 stitches (also in the center of K4 sections).
