The Book of Proverbs
Chapter 04
Proverbs 4:1
Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to knowunderstanding.
Proverbs 4:2
For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.
Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father,

But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of,

Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee. Lot’s wife forsook God’s instruction and wasturned into a pillar of salt:

Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his lifeshall preserve it.
 Note: the word “forsake” is used eleven times in the book of Proverbs.
 
Proverbs 4:7
Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thygetting get understanding.

Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour,when thou dost embrace her.

 She shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her; Stephen, the first Christianmartyr, explains how the wisdom of Joseph brought him to honor in the land of Egypt:

And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sightof Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

But when Jacob heard that there was corn in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first.

Proverbs 4:9
She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shallshe deliver to thee.
 Note: the word “crown” is used seven times in the book of Proverbs.
 
Provervs 4:10
Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shallbe many.
God’s message to King Solomon:

And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thyfather David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.
Proverbs 4:11
I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.
Proverbs 4:12
When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thourunnest, thou shalt not stumble.
