Chapter 27

Of the Church1.The catholic or universal church, which, with respect to the internal work of the Spirit and truth of grace, may be called invisible, consists of the wholenumber of the elect, that have been, are, or shall be gathered into one, underChrist, the head thereof; and is the spouse, the body, the fulness of Him thatfilleth all in all.

Hebrews12:18

For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire,nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,

Hebrews12:19

And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heardentreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:

Hebrews12:20

(For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beasttouch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart:

Hebrews12:21

And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)

Hebrews12:22

But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenlyJerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,

Hebrews12:23

To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, andto God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,

Hebrews12:24

And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, thatspeaketh better things than that of Abel.

Colossians1:18

And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn fromthe dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

Ephesians1:7

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, accordingto the riches of his grace;

Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;

Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasurewhich he hath purposed in himself:

That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one allthings in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:

In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all thesaints,

Ephesians1:16

Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;

Ephesians1:17

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you thespirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

Ephesians1:18

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is thehope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

Ephesians1:19

And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, accordingto the working of his mighty power,

Ephesians1:20

Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at hisown right hand in the heavenly places,

Ephesians1:21

Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name thatis named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:

Ephesians1:22

And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things tothe church,

Ephesians1:23

Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

Ephesians5:25

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

Ephesians5:26

That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

Ephesians5:27

That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

Ephesians5:32

This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

2.All persons throughout the world, professing the faith of the gospel, andobedience unto God by Christ, according unto it, not destroying their ownprofession by any error, everting the foundation, or unholiness of conversation, are and may be called visible saints;
