 Of the State of Man After Death, and of the Resurrection of the Dead
1.
The bodies of men after death return to dust, and see corruption,1 
Genesis
 
3:17
And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, andhast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it:cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
Genesis3:18
Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of thefield;
Genesis3:19
In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of itwast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
Acts13:36
For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, andwas laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:

But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.
but their souls, which neither die nor sleep, having an immortal subsistence,immediately return to God who gave them:2 
Ecclesiastes12:7
Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return untoGod who gave it.
the souls of the righteous being then made perfect in holiness, are received intoparadise, where they are with Christ, and behold the face of God, in light and glory,waiting for the full redemption of their bodies;3

For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a

If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.

For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.

 Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath givenunto us the earnest of the Spirit.

Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:

(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath

besides these two places, for souls separated from their bodies, the Scriptureacknowledgeth none.

At the last day, such of the saints as are found alive shall not sleep but bechanged;5 
I Corinthians15:51
Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
I Corinthians15:52
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shallsound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
