Objective
Upon the completion of this lesson, the student should understand that:1.Israel was chosen by God to be His servant – to glorify Him in the world.2.Although our service may appear to be in vain, God encourages us to greater service.3.The Lord wants everyone in the world (from every nation and place on earth) to be saved.
Introduction
- Chapters 49:1-6 contain the mission of the servant of Jehovah- Verses 1-13 are the servant’s ministry, and verses 14-26 are the consolations of Zion.-
I. Chosen for Service
Isaiah49:1
Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called mefrom the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.
Listen, O isles
Psalm 97:1
The LORD reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be gladthereof.
Big and small, far and near, nations are invited to listen to the Lord.
Habakkuk 2:14
For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of theLORD, as the waters cover the sea.
Listen, O isles, unto me; (Who is this speaking in first person?)
Isaiah48:16
Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, andhis Spirit, hath sent me.
Israel speaks:
Isaiah 49:14
But Zion said, The LORD hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgottenme.
 The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of mymother hath he made mention of my name.Both Isaiah 7:14 and Matt 1:21 show this prophecy fulfilled
Isaiah
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall

conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Matthew1:21
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for heshall save his people from their sins.
Matthew1:22
 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of theLord by the prophet, saying,
Matthew1:23
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and theyshall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Luke1:31
And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shaltcall his name JESUS.
 There is no mention of the Father because there is no earthly Father:
Genesis3:14

While speaking with Adam and Eve and Satan, God tells Satan in Genesis 3:15:

And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this,thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field;upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thylife:
Genesis3:15
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thyseed and
her seed
; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise hisheel.
Genesis3:16
Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thyconception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desireshall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.Centuries later, it was the prophet Isaiah who explained why the Messiah would bereckoned after the woman. In Isaiah 7:14, Isaiah writes:

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you

.
Galatians4:3
Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elementsof the world:

 The saints of God are in the shadow of his hand.
Protection
God is able to afford protection for His saints1 Peter 1:5; Jude 1:24
 
I Peter1:3
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to hisabundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
I Peter1:4
To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away,reserved in heaven for you,
I Peter1:5
Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to berevealed in the last time.
Jude1:24
 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
Jude1:25
To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and for ever. Amen.
God is faithful to afford protection for His saints1 Thessalonians 5:23,24; 2 Thessalonians 3:3
 
I Thessalonians5:23
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto thecoming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I Thessalonians5:24
Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
