They recognize the supernatural person of Jesus, but they did notdiscern Him to be the Messiah. There are many false religions that seem to hold Jesus to some regard, calling Him such things as Holy prophet, and great teacher, but theystop short of calling Jesus the Messiah.

The second exam question:Peter’s confession acknowledged Christ as the Son of God, thelong-awaited Messiah who would establish God’s kingdom of righteousness. His confession essentially said that Jesus was thefulfillment of the Old Testament prophecy (see Isaiah chapters 9,11, 61). Jesus was not just a teacher or prophet, He was God onearth. This was revealed by God to the disciples.
Mark 8:30

Salvation comes through faith in Christ Jesus, and the holyscriptures in the Old Testament testify to that. As a matter of fact, every time the New Testament refers to the Law, or the prophets,or any Old Testament scriptures, there is an emphasis put on thefact that Jesus is the object of faith in all the scriptures.
