The Fatima Message and the Problem of False Obedience
An article written by Fr. Nicholas Gruner focused on a great obstacle to accomplishment of the imperatives of the Fatima Message: false obedience. What is true of the Pope -- that his power and authority are limited by the obedience of faith -- is all the more true of his subordinates. Yet, in their ranks, the obedience of faith has widely been replaced in the post-conciliar epoch by obedience to their authority for its own sake.

Wearing Mary´s Scapular is a way to consecrate ourselves to Her service. Consecration sets apart a person or thing for a sacred purpose. Every Catholic should be consecrated to Mary. Our Lady of Fatima, on October 13th, 1917, held the Brown Scapular in Her hand, making the three child seers, Lucy, Jacinta and Francisco, understand that She wants all of us to wear the Scapular. The Scapular represents Our Lady’s protection and Her care for us. She promised to Saint Simon Stock: “It shall be a sign of salvation, a protection in danger, and a pledge of peace. Whosoever dies wearing this Scapular shall not suffer eternal fire.”

Father Gruner has a right to his good name, for as the law of the Church reminds us: "No one may unlawfully harm the good reputation which a person enjoys…" Catholics who care about justice in the Church, as opposed to empty Pharisaical legalism, should take the trouble to examine the facts of Father Gruner’s situation with an open mind. If they do so, they will have to conclude, as I have, that no, Virginia, Father Nicholas Gruner is not "suspended," and that anyone who claims Father Gruner is "a suspended priest" is helping to perpetrate one of the great injustices in the Church today.

The following is an edited transcript of the first speech given by Father Nicholas Gruner at the Fatima Center’s “Consecration Now!” Conference held in Rome from May 9 to 13, 2011. We must tell the truth clearly and simply, and explain it so that people know that there is one way, and only one way out of the mess the Church is in, the mess the world is in. There is only one way to stop the senseless killing of millions of people in war, in abortion, in food riots, in financial terrorism, etc. and that one and only way is the Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

There are those who claim we do not have to believe in Fatima because it is merely a private revelation. This is not true. The revelations at Fatima fall into another category: a higher category. It is a public, prophetic revelation.

God, in His great love for mankind, wants to give all men the great gift of world peace. In all the 6000 years of mankind’s recorded history, there have been more than 14,400 wars. God wants to bring an end to all wars but mankind does not deserve this great grace. As Our Lady of Fatima said: “War is a punishment for sin.” Peace, on the other hand, comes only from God through the Prince of Peace — Jesus Christ. Nevertheless, God still wants to give peace to all mankind but only if we will obey the Fatima Message.

The Hail Mary and the Most Holy Rosary of the Virgin Mary are treasured prayers that every human being, regardless of their state in life, and regardless of whether or not they are Catholic, should use every day.

What follows is a beautiful “letter to children” that can be read by parents, grandparents and others to children. The aim is to sow in the hearts of children a love of Our Lady, and to urge those who have already made their First Communion to practice the Five First Saturdays of Reparation.

In the October 2010 issue of his newsletter The Curate’s Diary, Father Thaddeus Doyle of Ireland accuses Father Nicholas Gruner and me of “twisting” the famous statements by John Paul II on March 25, 1984 indicating the late Pontiff’s recognition that his consecration ceremony on that date did not fulfill Our Lady’s requirements for the consecration of Russia, and that Our Lady was still awaiting the consecration of that nation to Her Immaculate Heart. Father Doyle’s article is the latest in a series of broadsides he continues to publish no matter how many times his errors on the subject of Fatima are corrected by Father Gruner or some other knowledgeable Catholic.

The Rosary has been treasured in the Church for many centuries. In a profound sense, it is a summary of the Catholic Faith in language and prayers inspired by the Bible. Pope Pius X wrote that, “among all the devotions approved by the Church, none has been favored by so many miracles as the devotion to the Most Holy Rosary.” The Immaculate Heart of Mary holds in reserve a torrent of graces and favors, which She can pour out on our souls, our families, on Christendom, and the whole world – but only in response to the humble, constant supplication of our innumerable Rosaries. Sister Lucy tells us that because of these times, that God has given greater power to the Rosary than in any other time in history. And so pray the Rosary. It is your weapon, it is your shield, it is your guarantee, it is your spiritual inoculation against forces of evil. Your Rosary prayers can move mountains, save countries, save souls. What a privilege. And such a small task. It is so easy that its miraculous power is sometimes overshadowed with skepticism. Its stupendous miraculous power is too often buried under fears and doubts. How many more miracles we would see if we humbly and trustfully turned ourselves over to Our Lady of the Rosary. How many pray the Rosary and ask Our Lady’s help with their burdens, but then continued to fret about them and take their troubles back as if they didn’t really believe their prayers would be answered. The Rosary can bring peace to our troubled hearts. And that peace can spread to others, and ultimately, that peace can help change the world. The peace, tranquility and holiness that comes from the Rosary is what we need now.
