Day 16: Toledo to Tembleque

from Trans-iberian in Illustrations & Maps

A lazy wander through Don Quijote country, this is a great, flat ride that's also great as a day away from Madrid (when the weather's not too hot). For those of you who ride mountain bikes and want a day that's a little longer, it is possible to expand the day to almost 90km from its original 65.

Day 15: Aranjuez to Toledo

from Trans-iberian in Illustrations & Maps

We're not going to lie: As far as scenic bike rides go, this probably isn't one of the loveliest that you'll ever do. Day 12: Sigüenza to Brihuega (PROVISIONAL)

The provisional cue sheet that takes you from Sigüenza to Brihuega. I hope to have a new version up by the fall, and aside from the truck traffic, this route isn't bad. But we'll have on up soon.

Here's one for the foodies, and for people looking for scenery without too much climbing. This enjoyable day starts with a bit of an uphill, followed by a brake-burning descent and passes by some of Guadalajara's cutest towns, many with great restaurants. / Looking for a great weekend away that...

Don't let the length of today's route put you off: this is an enjoyable way to discover the rolling hills of Burgos province while experiencing the Camino de Santiago vibe. This day can be split in two for those who want to take it a little more easy, or visit the Atapuerca archaeological site.

Day 6: Logroño to Haro

from Trans-iberian in Illustrations & Maps

Wine country, here we come! Who says that all the great routes combining wine and bikes are in France or Italy? Using the old Roman road that links Logroño with Fuenmayor, and then hitting the GR99 hiking trail to take you into Haro. Just remember - if you drink, don't ride.

from Trans-iberian in Illustrations & Maps

Today, the route moves south and heads further inland, taking riders into the little-visited, but very beautiful, Sierra de la Demanda. No traffic stress here, just gorgeous mountain scenery, best enjoyed from the path established by the former mining train that brought coal out of the sierra.
