I am a poet. Not the romantically motivated creative writer, or the classics educated emulator. Each to their own. I do appreciate the colourful palette of the best of creative writers... but on the other side of the spectrum I find an awful lot of self-indulgent people posing as poets :(
I care more for the homeless than I do for Homer. I study the sick 'class' not the classics. I am far more interested in the movement, space, energy and frequency of the piece. Sometimes I put my work to music; although each piece is written in the rhythm of the heart, the breath, the step, the journey, the groove, the fluid move...
I love the freedom and play on words of the English language... so I play. I write because it is almost essential for me; beyond a cathartic experience. My poetry comes from being a seeker for Truth... as was the role of the ancient poets, as well as a lover of sound, rhythm and movement. I guess I walk a spiral path somewhere between the wise man and the fool... but that's fine because I still like a good laugh at my own as well as others expense ;) That is the essential ingredient of the British sense of humour.
It took me 25 years of writing before I would call myself a poet.
Please take a moment to absorb each filling meal, then read it again. Most people miss the deliberate play on spellings and anagrams :) I hope you enjoy the contemplation and self-exploration that follows :)
