Family, with a history of smokers or parents as a smokers put children of that family, at a greater risk to start smoking.
IV.Health effects of smoking
Each year about 438,000 people in the United States die from illnesses related to cigarettesmoking. Cigarettes kill more Americans than alcohol, car accidents, suicide, AIDS, homicide, and illegaldrugs combined. Cigarette smoking accounts for at least 30% of all cancer deaths. It is a major cause of cancers of the lung, larynx (voice box), oral cavity, pharynx (throat), esophagus (swallowing tubeconnected to the stomach), and bladder, and it contributes to the development of cancers of the pancreas,cervix, kidney, stomach, and also some leukemia.Other than cancer, smoking plays a major role in inducing other diseases in human’s body.Smoking can also damage a woman's reproductive health. Smoking may be also responsible for gumdisease, cataracts, bone thinning, hip fractures, and peptic ulcers. Smoking can drastically reduce thememorizing power of human being.
