FATAWA 1:
I want to make Hajj but my husband prevents me?
Question: I am an elderly wealthy woman. I presented the idea of making Hajj to my husband several times but he
refused without having a reason. My older brother is going on Hajj. Should I make Hajj with him even if my husband
does not permit me or should I abandon the Hajj and stay in my land out of obedience to my husband?
Response: Since Hajj is an obligation that must be met at its first opportunity and since that woman has the
responsibility, ability and male relative to go with her, it is obligatory upon her to go immediately to Hajj and it is
forbidden for her husband to prevent her without any reason.
It is permissible for her, in the state just described, to make Hajj with her brother even if her husband does not agree to
it because it is an individual obligation like the prayer and fasting, and the right of Allah (swt) takes precedence. That
husband has no right to prevent his wife from fulfilling her obligation of Hajj and Allah (swt) is the guide to the straight
path.
FATAWA 2:
Is the Farewell Tawaaf obligatory or not and can I purchase anything after it?
Question: Is the Farewell Tawaaf of the Kabah obligatory for the one making Umrah? Is it allowed to purchase
something in Makkah after making the Farewell Tawaaf regardless of whether that was for the Hajj or Umrah?
Response: The Farewell Tawaaf (Tawaaf ul Wadaa) is not obligatory for the Umrah. However it is best to do it. If
though someone leaves and did not perform it, then there is no harm. However, for the Hajj, it is obligatory, because the
Prophet (pbuh) said \u201c none of you should leave until he performs the last circumambulation around the house\u201d (Sahih
Muslim). These words were directed to the pilgrims.
The person may purchase whatever he needs to purchase afterwards. He may even purchase items for business purposes.
But the time interval must be short. If he spends a lengthy time in Makkah after performing the Farewell Tawaaf, he
must then repeat his Tawaaf ul Wadaa. If according to custom, his stay afterwards was not lengthy, he does not have to
repeat the circumambulation ( Tawaaf ul Wadaa) in any case.
FATAWA 3:
Ruling Concerning changing the clothing of Ihram
Question: Can a person change the clothing of Ihram in order to wash them?
Response: There is no harm in washing the clothes during the Ihram. There is no harm in ex-
changing them for others and putting on new or washed Ihram clothes.
