Course 1
SAT PREP ACADEMY
A program for students in grades 10 
– 
11

WEEKDAYS ONLY; NO CLASS ON JULY 4TH
 
Ten intensive daily sessions, led by ACS Athens staff
 
Classes meet for three hours between 10:00 a.m.
 –
1:00 p.m.
 
Two classes per session: Mathematics /Critical Reading andWriting
 
Maximum class size: 7-8 students
 
Classes will focus on specific test taking strategies, test takingpractice and content review and reinforcement.
 
Cost: 500 euros (ACS Athens students)
Minimum of 5 students required for course to run. Maximum number of students who can be enrolled: 15.

Course 2 
PLAYING WITH WORDS:
Summer CreativeWriting Day Camp (organized in conjunction withthe Aegean Arts Circle)

Come with an open mind, paper and pen. We will do what the course title says:play with words. No grades. No judgments. Supportive small group will becomprised of students who like to write and who will provide feedback on allwriting done in the workshop. Who knows, some of the topics we will touch onmight give you ideas for college application essays and themes for projects youmight want to tackle on your own.Playing with words is designed to get you thinking outside the box. We will havefour days to play with our own writing
 –
that could mean that we start off with asimple writing exercise or a journal entry or a description of a photograph andend up with a wildly interesting short story, the beginnings of a novel or anoutline for a screenplay
 –
the possibilities are endless.Instructor Amalia Melis is creator and organizer of the Aegean Arts Circle
Creative Writing Workshops. Her short story “Immigrant Daughter” won second
place for new writers in
Glimmer Train 
in 2006. Two other stories were named asfinalists in the 2005 and 2007
Glimmer Train 
awards competition. She hasfinished writing her first novel and is currently working on a second. She is afreelance feature writer and, when avoiding the blank page, she makeswire/metal sculptures out of found items.

Course 3 
HEALTHY CHOICES/HEALTHY LIVING
A program for students entering grades 10-12

This discussion-rich, project-based course offers an intensive study of theimportant health and nutrition topics necessary for all high school studentsto know, so that they can make informed choices to promote physical,mental and emotional health. The student will study such topics as self-esteem, stress management, abuse, First Aid techniques-CPR, nutritionand exercise, human sexuality, sex and family planning, substance abuse,
and STD’s.
Successful completion of this course will earn students .5credits and satisfy the ACS graduation requirement for Health.COST: ACS ATHENS STUDENTS 500 eurosNON-ACS ATHENS STUDENTS 750 eurosMinimum enrollment: 5 students. Maximum enrollment: 15 students.

The summer Algebra and Trigonometry class has been designed for thefollowing students:

Students who failed the Algebra Trigonometry class and wish toretake it again Students who wish to refresh or enhance theirAlgebra skills in preparation for the next academic year.

Students who want to better prepare for the SAT exams
o
 
Incoming students who wish to be exposed to the ACS Algebracurriculum in preparation for their first year at ACS AthensStudents who successfully complete the course (including receiving asatisfactory grade on the final assessmentwill receive .5 elective credits,which will be applied towards meeting ACS Athens graduationrequirements.
